Started an initiative for greening the schools at Gedarif

The Branch of the Sudanese Environment Conservation Society (SECS) in the city of Gedarif started an initiative for greening the schools of the city as part of “School Yard” programme of the Society. The kick off was in the Muassasat Elementary school for girls on Thursday the 29th of August 2024. The action started at the school morning parade where speeches about the environment, climate change and the importance of trees planting were presented by the school teachers and the Branch volunteers. This was followed by planting 50 fruit and shade trees by the students. The seedlings were provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Forests National Corporation. The initiative will continue to green more schools and will be augmented by a school and home gardening activities to provide vegetables to the school communities and the neighboring bouseholds.
