Hygiene Promotion and Environmental Recovery for Development and Poverty Reduction Project.

Five villages (Galaat wad Malik, Galaat Elsilait, Elkumur, Elhasania and Dabak) from Northern rural Administrative Unit.

  • Targeted groups:

Students, teachers, residents of five targeted villages (women, youth and men) and poorest households,  CBOs, Community Leaders, environmental activists and the media people.

  • Project summary:

The Project aimed to improve environmental health and reduce poverty in the Northern rural Administrative Unit and contribute towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

It was implemented in 27 months, targeting specific groups that included Students, teachers, residents of five targeted villages (women, youth and men) and poorest households, CBOs, Community Leaders, environmental activists and the media people.

 

The project started by conducting community mobilization activities that included awareness campaigns and Public lectures on different environmental issues. Other activities were implemented as well, such as training workshops on three topics (environmental rights and legislations – administrative systems and strategic planning – lobbying and advocacy).

 

The project worked hard to promote the issue of Hygiene Promotion awareness using different types of activities, enhancing the capacities of the main actors at different levels through training, disseminating of information and knowledge related to environmental health and Hygiene Promotion.

 

This project can be replicated in other Localities in Sudan; it has fostered the participation of various governmental institutions, voluntary organizations and other civil society organizations.
